Our Vision

Mindful Counseling envisions a society capable of achieving a higher purpose because it is ridden of the burdens of trauma, resentment, and disease.

We believe that the most powerful way to contribute to this vision is to work with the individual. It’s the inner turmoil of individuals that feed into the greater problems of society, such as war, greed, and oppression. Just the same, inner healing and strength feed into a society of compassion, charity, and justice. With each individual who finds recovery, there is one more chip tipping the scale of society toward peace.

Our Core Values

Values are like a compass: they point our actions in the right direction. When we need to make a choice, we check our values to guide us. These core values help us stay the course.

Compassion

Compassion, as defined in acceptance and commitment therapy, is “acknowledging pain and responding with kindness”.

To us, this means treating those who are in any kind of pain with enough respect to 1) recognize their struggle instead of ignoring it, and 2) treat that person kindly. Even when difficult conversations need to be had or boundaries need to be enforced, compassion will always be a cornerstone.

Accessibility

Accessibility means building systems that can be navigated by anyone and eliminating unnecessary obstacles.

Counseling already has too many barriers: finances, stigma, waiting lists, administrative hurdles. Not only do we want to avoid adding to these obstacles, but we want to actively work to reduce them. Once connected, the process should be as easy to navigate as possible.

Communication

Communication is maintaining clear, ongoing lines of discussion about what we’re doing and why.

We do this in a way that all people involved can understand. Everyone is given a chance to listen and be heard, and we assume an active role in maintaining lines of communication.

Quality

Quality means producing excellent products and services every step of the way.

We do this by putting effort into our work at every step of the process. In our clinical services, we use only evidence-based approaches and seek constant improvement through training, education, consultation, and supervision.

Integrity

Integrity is “doing the right thing even when no one is watching.”

When we claim a value, whether it’s one of these core values or not, we strive to live by it entirely and at every opportunity. No interaction is too small for values to be irrelevant. They are always worth acting upon.
